Kitchen Design: 6 Top Trends for 2017

Lots of people see the kitchen as the centre of their home. And they want that centre to look great. Modern living has altered the kitchen from a functional back space to an area that needs to be both practical and trendy.

If you want a stylish kitchen but aren’t sure where to start, keep reading. We have put together a list of the 6 top 2017 kitchen design trends to help you make a fashionable new kitchen.

Simplicity

There’s now a focus on practicality and simplicity. Unnecessary furnishings, furniture and units are becoming unpopular, as is impractical minimalism.

The move this year is towards a kitchen that is well-stocked and practical, but also uncluttered and attractive.

Muted colours

Popular kitchen colours this year include dusty pinks, washed blues and dark yellows, greens and reds. These look good with light greys, creams and browns. These soft shades bring adequate colour to your kitchen to make it interesting and unique, without being overwhelming or loud.

Matte finishes

This year glossy and shiny surfaces are losing popularity and being replaced by warmer, matte materials. So shiny metals like stainless-steel are being replaced by copper, brass and pewter. Work surfaces are also losing their shiny, glossy finishes and plaster walls are replacing tiles. You can mix matte materials together to make a truly unique look.

Hidden appliances

Another kitchen trend this year is hidden appliances. Lots of people are choosing to hide their appliances behind doors instead of having them on show. This trend has the double advantage of both hiding unattractive appliances and helping to make a consistent design scheme.

Natural products

2017 will see an increase in the amount of natural products in the kitchen. Popular materials this year include wood, wicker and clay. Wood can be integrated into the kitchen in vertical wall panelling, work surfaces and tables. You can cover floors and walls with clay or slate tiles and put wicker-seated chairs round the table.

Tuxedo cabinets

Tuxedo cabinets are also popular this year. 2017 sees wall cabinets painted a light colour and base cabinets a darker one. Tuxedo cabinets have tended to be black and white, but this year it’s more likely you’ll see olive green with cream, or navy blue with light grey.

So there are quite a few 2017 design trends that are fairly simple to create in your own kitchen. If you’re ready to revamp your kitchen then fill in our online form. We’ll connect you with up to 4 kitchen companies who can help.
